A pregnancy can be something planned for several years, or can come as a real surprise. Each woman’s case is different. But whatever the situation, she has three options from which to choose.

Continue the Pregnancy and Keep the Child

When a woman decides to continue the pregnancy and keep the child, she might have questions about legal issues that can come up.

To learn more about the rights and obligations of parents, see our Families and Couples section.

Continue the Pregnancy and Give the Child Up for Adoption

A woman may have reasons to continue the pregnancy and give the child up for adoption. For more information on the adoption process and its legal consequences, see our article on adopting a child in Quebec

End the Pregnancy

A pregnant woman can decide to end her pregnancy by having an abortion. Legally, she has control over her body and can therefore choose to have an abortion if this is what she wants.

To learn more about abortion in Quebec, its legality, the decision process, where they are performed and the fact that the procedure is free, see Éducaloi’s articles on abortion, including “Abortion Decisions.”
