3 things to know about Stéphanie
An historical event: April 18th 1940, the day women obtained the right to vote in Quebec.
Tea or coffee? Coffee in the morning, green tea during the day and herbal tea in the evening.
Her last supper would be with her children, her partner and her dog. Nothing matters more to her.
Stéphanie graduated from the University of Ottawa in civil law in 1993 and has been a member of the Quebec Bar since 1995. She quickly became involved in numerous organizations within the Outaouais community. Having access to social justice at heart, in her early career, she often agreed to represent people free of charge or at a very low cost when they did not have the financial resources to ensure their representation. It is her passion for access to justice that also led her to obtain her accreditation as a family mediator.
Elected in 2007, she represented for more than 11 years the riding of Gatineau at the National Assembly of Quebec. She held several ministerial and parliamentary positions, including Minister of Justice, Minister Responsible for the Status of Women and Minister responsible for the Outaouais region. She is recognized for having listed gender identity or expression as a ground of discrimination prohibited by the Quebec Charter of Rights and Freedoms. She also introduced a major departmental plan to reduce court delays following the now-famous Jordan decision, which resulted in significant investments in the justice system.
Committed, passionate about protecting the public, getting involved with Éducaloi is natural for Stéphanie. What motivates her? A desire to give back to the community by sharing the expertise she has gained throughout her professional journey. A great admirer of Éducaloi’s mission, she wants to help make the law accessible to everyone, everywhere in Quebec, and to contribute to countering the spread of misinformation.
Little anecdote : she’s glad to work with Véronique Hivon in Éducaloi’s Board as they used to challenge each other while they were both sitting in the National Assembly.
