Annual General Assembly: An emotional farewell

Éducaloi’s Annual General Assembly took place on June 13 at the Quebec Court of Appeal. Marked by the Honorable François Rolland’s departure, it was a night filled with emotions.

Tributes poured in to mark the end of the former Chief Justice of the Quebec Superior Court’s third two-year term as Chairman of Éducaloi’s Board of Directors.

You’re the true definition of kindness, said Éducaloi’s Executive Director, Ariane Charbonneau. I’m also indebted to you for your constant support through thick and thin, through the organization’s changes and challenges. You’ve always been by my side. When a Chairman of the Board tells his employees that he loves them at a Christmas cocktail party, I find it powerful and touching. For my part, this will forever confirm to me that being a professional who is in touch with their emotions truly is important.

Several prominent figures from the legal world emphasized the significant contribution of the departing president in a video prepared for this occasion, including Chief Justice of Canada Richard Wagner, Quebec Justice Minister Simon Jolin-Barrette and his federal counterpart David Lametti.

Thank you so much! It’s a wonderful surprise. I’m amazed, I wasn’t expecting this, commented the departing president, clearly moved by the tribute. It’s been a wonderful experience, a wonderful journey. Éducaloi has become an extraordinary institution, it’s undeniable. You have everything you need to continue and fulfill your destiny.

The Honourable François Rolland will be replaced by Me Michel Beauchamp, notary emeritus, who joined Éducaloi’s Board of Directors last December. Other members of the board include Me Annie Gaudreault, Vice-President, Ms Alexandra Langelier, Treasurer, Ms Marie-José Labelle, Secretary, as well as Me Francisco Couto, Me George Dolhan, Me Véronique Hivon, Ms Catherine Laporte and Mr Nicolas Prévost.

A year full of accomplishments

The nomination of board members was just one item on a very full agenda. It was also an opportunity to look back on this past year. Several members of the Éducaloi team presented important projects that the organization had worked on.

La création d’une CCD Académie au sein d’Éducaloi (centre de formation interne sur la Communication Claire du Droit), de nouveaux règlements généraux rédigés en langage clair et épicène et une refonte de notre structure organisationnelle ont notamment été présentés.

Almost 25 years

In an effort to secure support for its mission of explaining the law clearly, Éducaloi also took the opportunity to launch its two-year fundraising campaign.

The slogan of this campaign, which will set up 25 initiatives to mark Éducaloi’s 25th anniversary, is “Pour une société qui connaît et comprend ses droits, je soutiens Éducaloi” (“For a society that knows and understands its rights, I support Éducaloi”). Three dates have already been announced:

  • Juricourse – October 7, 2023
  • Fundraising Benefit – November 16, 2023
  • Éducaloi’s 25th Anniversary – February 27, 2025

The commitment of Mes Caroline Biron and Alexandre Forest was also highlighted, given that they will be honorary presidents for this campaign to help Éducaloi fulfill its mission.

Éducaloi is an organization, but above all, it’s a close-knit team that, through its daily work, reaffirms its two areas of expertise to help the population of Quebec better understand their rights.
